With the introduction of 2x Exp. cards into MapleStory, has leveling become more of a job than a game?
It seems to me that we now have put time constraints on ourselves, as if we have to go to work or school. I think that it has changed our subconscious thinking to that of instead of thinking that leveling is optional and has no deadline, we now think that leveling has to be done from say 7 to 11. It's changed our thinking so that we have to take that time to level, and maybe even pass up doing something with friends or family just to do so.
My personal experience has been what I stated in the previous paragraph. I got a 10 day 2x Exp card to help me get to level 70, the second night I had it my brother-in-law offered to take me out to play pool, but in the back of my mind I remembered the card so I declined. After grinding for 3 hours or so for my level, I realized that I'd have had much more fun going out. It had turned into a job instead of a game.
Now the problem I see with this is that I don't think most people have realized this. They think that since it's the only option to leveling in a decent amount of time that they have to do that. The realization that this is a game and not a job comes later after you've worn yourself out for 10 or 30 days in a row of 4 hours+ in front of a computer at a time. Now 4 hours in front of your computer is even longer than Nexon suggests, yet they sell the cards for 4, not their recommended 3.
Note that this is not a bashing thread of 2x Exp cards, they're a good thing if you have nothing else to do during the time that you buy them for. The problem arises whenever you have a schedule that's constantly changing, things come up, you lose time that you paid for or you sacrifice time with other people for what should be just a game that's turned into a responsibility for you.
This is my personal experience, I realized it had turned what was a game into a job for me, so I stopped, I let the 2x exp card I have go to what could be said waste because I don't want to turn the game back into a job.
Yeah, yeah, I just copied and pasted it from what I wrote on SW.net, but I'm too fucking lazy to type it all, or summarize it.
